Simba Mate - Inexhaustible Energy to Serve

WELCOME

A very warm welcome to Hillcrest College. We are a small co-ed school with an enrolment of 300 pupils from Form 1 to Upper 6. We have a boarding facility which is able to cope with 200 pupils.

We are a member of the Association of Trust Schools (ATS) and the Conference of Heads of Independent Schools in Zimbabwe (CHISZ). We are the only ATS independent school in Mutare and Manicaland province. Our main priority is to offer a sound Cambridge Education to all our pupils with some sports and cultural activities to develop each pupil fully. We challenge our pupils in the outdoor arena with trips to Outward Bound in Chimanimani and other camps to Nyanga and Great Zimbabwe.

Our pupils have a very strong academic ethos and they are encouraged to pursue their sporting and cultural interests from a wide variety of activities on offer. Our staff are hard-working and committed to their school and we are very proud of our Cambridge IGCSE and AS/A Level results. We have small classes which have proven to offer several benefits academically as well as personally. We provide remediation work and supportive learning for pupils who lag behind.

If you would like to find out more about Hillcrest College, please feel free to contact us and we would be delighted to discuss any further queries with you.

THE SCHOOL MOTTO

‘Simba Mate’ is a Shona expression which has been given a number of possible translations. The first Hillcrest College Shona teacher, Mr. Gilbert Rondozai, gave it a more detailed translation – ‘the strength that we have is inexhaustible, one can give freely of one’s talents and strength to society and other people without loss to yourself’. Simply put, the motto translates to ‘energy to serve which is inexhaustible’.
